Are you looking for some tips for travelling alone? Why? I have been travelling solo for more than 30 years & around 70 countries, most of which are now as a happily married woman travelling alone. As such, there have been many tips & hints that I have learned along the way, most of which have been the hard way!
The first thing to do is to make sure you pack everything you will need. No-one wants to take along a lot of useless rubbish – it takes so much effort to pack it all that you end up losing your place in the luggage compartment. Pack things like medicines, a camera, clothes, change of clothes, toiletries etc. This makes it far easier when checking in at airports or hotels if you do have any problems with your luggage. If you don’t pack correctly, it is far harder to check-in and it could get you to pay a lot more!
One of my top tips for travelling alone is to never take more than the necessary amount of valuables. There are all sorts of reasons why you might want to carry valuables with you. If you have valuables with you like jewellery, coins, expensive paintings etc, then you might want to make sure you leave this at home unless you know you can bring them with you. In which case, you have to be sure that you have left enough space to hide your valuables.
Another top tip for travelling alone is to make sure you choose a hotel room that has a single supplement of bedding. I’m not talking about the normal cotton bedding but actual bed bugs. Bedbugs are tiny parasites that live off your blood. They have to feed on human blood, because they cannot survive in other sources. If there is a single piece of cloth or other soft fabric that they can lie on, they will devour it quickly.
A final top tip for travelling alone is to make sure that you meet people. If you have the opportunity to meet people while you are travelling, do it. Meeting up with strangers can lead to many different experiences. Some of them will be good, and some of them will be bad. If you meet people and they turn out to be con artists or worse, criminals, then you will have your own share of problems to deal with.
Hopefully you now see that travelling alone doesn’t have to be a horrible experience. You can enjoy the experience and learn from it. Use these tips for travelling alone and you can avoid some of the common problems that others have had to face. With a little bit of planning, you can make your solo travel plans much easier and you can learn from other’s mistakes.
